The YTM® Tool

A gentle, precise tool used to support TMJ healing , prevention and treatment of other orofacial myofunctional disorders as part of the YTM® Method therapy protocol. The YTM® Tool allows for a higher level of precision than manual therapy alone, helping patients achieve lasting relief and restored muscular balance and function.

What is an Orofacial Myofunctional Disorder?

These are abnormal movement patterns or posture of the muscles of the face, mouth, tongue and jaw. Some examples include:

  • Mouth breathing

  • Low tongue posture

  • Tongue restrictions

  • Tongue thrust

  • Ineffective lip closure

  • Swallowing issues

  • Speech issues

  • Habit related disorders such as thumb sucking or lip chewing

The YTM® Method

The YTM® Method is a complementary theory that works on the treatment of orofacial myofunctional disorders (OMD's). This innovative therapy was created by Yulli Tamayo-Myerson  (Myofunctional Therapy UK) in 2019 and involved the development and creation of the YTM® Tool for use in both adults and children.

Examples of OMD's include mouth breathing, low tongue posture, tongue thrust, tethered oral tissues causing restrictions, overuse of the chin muscles to obtain lip closure, swallowing and speech related issues such as a lisp amongst others. OMD's can also be habit related for example, nail biting or thumb sucking. Many patients have TMJ dysfunction due to their disharmony of orofacial muscles, tongue posture and jaw alignment. Those who have symptoms from sleep disordered breathing or obstructive sleep apnoea may reach out to us for therapy and appropriate and onward care and referral recommendations are provided as therapy progresses.

The YTM® Method using the patented wellness YTM® Tool assists with improving the muscles of the face and mouth and jaw to work in harmony together enabling nasal breathing, correct tongue posture, lips closure and effective chewing and swallowing. The YTM® Method employs the following working with different pressure applications:

1.  Cranial nerve stimulation

2. Myofascial and tension release

3. Tissue stretching, strengthening and elongation of muscles

4. Lymphatic drainage

5. Toning and neuromuscular integration and repatterning of muscles

How the YTM® Tool Works in TMJ Dysfunction

The YTM® Tool is a patented wellness instrument which is useful for treating jaw pain. It provides a higher level of precision than manual therapy alone, helping patients achieve lasting relief and restored mobility and function.

Precise Trigger Point Release

The tool allows the therapist to apply targeted pressure to specific trigger points in the masticatory muscles, providing significant pain relief deeper than manual techniques alone can achieve.
